- While fighting has waned in the Libyan capital of Tripoli in recent days, the new
rebel authorities are struggling to deal with a growing humanitarian crisis.
- There are grave concerns in Libya that up to 50,000 political prisoners are either
trapped underground or have been executed, following the discovery of charred remains
in a hidden bunker.
- The National Transitional Council says the extradition of its citizens as demanded
by the West is not a priority, including the extradition of Lockerbie airline bomber Abdel
Basset al-Megrahi.
- New York City officials are denying they over-reacted with mandatory evacuations
and subway closures as Hurricane Irene passed causing less damage than feared, although
14 storm-related deaths were recorded along the eastern seaboard.
- A Climate Institute report to be released on Monday draws a direct link between inaction
on climate change and long-term social and mental health problems.
- DNA testing on three bones found in bushland on the Sunshine Coast has confirmed
they were the remains of 13-year-old Daniel Morcombe.

- The coal seam gas (CSG) industry says comments made by mining magnate Clive Palmer,
