Vic:Beilharz first Aussie woman to conquer North and South poles

LINDA BEILHARZ .. from country Victoria .. has become the first Australian woman to
successfully trek to both the South and North poles.

The 50-year-old .. together with husband ROB RIGATO .. 58 .. and Canadian SARAH MCNAIR-LANDRY
.. 23 .. reached the North Pole from Ward Hunt Island .. the most northern tip of Canada,
at 2.30am (AEST) today.

Ms BEILHARZ'S mother VYRNA .. 75 .. of Carlton says she's excited and relieved at the
news the group had reached the Pole.

The group are catching up on sleep at the North Pole and will be picked up by a helicopter
that will take them to the Russian Barneo Ice Station .. then on to Svalbard .. which
is an archipelago in the Arctic.
