NSW: Prisoner charged over fellow inmate's death
A prisoner at Sydney's Silverwater remand centre has been charged in relation to thedeath of a fellow inmate.
A Corrective Services spokesman says 34-year-old SCOTT SIMPSON appeared in ParramattaLocal Court on Tuesday over the death of a fellow inmate at the Metropolitan Remand andReception Centre in western Sydney.
The inmate died about 6pm (AEST) on Saturday.
SIMPSON was charged with assault, failing to comply with bail conditions and malicious damage.
A government source says the victim, who was on remand for sexual assault offencesagainst children, was bashed to death.
Police have not yet released the name of the deceased because relatives have not been contacted.
SIMPSON will appear in Burwood Local Court on Tuesday.
