Vic: Man inspired by Bible to hate gays, court told

A court's been told a Melbourne man who was inspired by the Bible to hate gays attemptedto stab another man to death.

The Melbourne Magistrates Court's heard that 29-year-old DAT BANG TRUONG picked upa pair of scissors and stabbed a former lodger in his Ferntree Gully boarding house whenhe heard him laughing with another resident on April 3 this year.

Detective Senior Constable TONY HENRY's told the court TRUONG drove the pair of scissorsinto the man's chest then slashed his ear before the former lodger fled.

The man was later treated in hospital for two stab wounds.

TRUONG, who is facing charges of attempted murder and intentionally causing seriousinjury, later told police he believed the man was a homosexual and he despised their behaviour.

Detective HENRY said TRUONG believes the Bible teaches that a man who sleeps with anotherman will be put to death.

The hearing is continuing.
